Weapon Detection Systems

Out of concern for the safety and security of students, employees, and visitors, SMP implemented the use of CEIA OPENGATE weapons detection systems on all campuses. Every student (PK-12) will be screened daily as they enter the school building. Bookbags will also be searched during this screening procedure. Should there be an alert, students will be expected to fully cooperate in determining the cause of the alert. Searches to resolve such alerts will be conducted immediately. Failure to cooperate or submit to additional screening as requested by staff may result in disciplinary consequences. ALL visitors will be screened using the CEIA OPENGATE weapons detection system, as well as adhere to the SMP Visitor Clear Bag Policy upon visiting any campus for all events.
