Bus Transportation (JCDAD)
Daily transportation is provided to and from school to all students except for students in grades 6-12 who live within a mile of school and elementary students who live within a quarter mile of school (RS 17:158). Due to traffic, weather, road construction, etc. noted pick-up and drop-off times cannot be exact times. It is important that students arrive at the bus stop timely, ten minutes before scheduled pickup time. Parents should allow for ten minutes after scheduled pick-up or drop-off time; however, when there is a 14 prolonged delay on a route, the district will notify parents with a Jtext. As early as possible, a Jtext will notify parents when students ride a different bus for various reasons. The school bus is an extension of the school building; therefore, the SMP Student Code of Conduct applies to each bus rider. Behavior issues shall be reported to the school principal who will address the misconduct according to the SMP Discipline Matrix. It is important to make the daily bus ride to and from school as safe as possible. This is greatly dependent upon students following Bus Expectations. For any behavior that causes an unsafe condition on the bus, the Bus Operator will find a safe place to park and contact law enforcement for assistance.
